How To Upcycle Your Empty Glass Jars & Bottles: A Step-By-Step

Do you ever wonder what happens to your empty jars when you throw them out? If you care about the planet, you probably do not want to know. If you are looking for an alternative to recycling, how about up cycling your glass jars from now on?

Here’s a simple step-by-step to upcycle your empty glass jars:

  1. Simply peel the label(s) off of the glass jar as best as you can.
  2. Wash the glass jar and begin to screw off the excess residue from any stickers or labels.
  3. For stubborn labels: Take an alcohol pad or rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball to the spot on the glass jar for an extra oomph. A baking soda and water paste with a dish brush may also do the trick. Some labels may need to be soaked off overnight. Dawn Dish Soap does a wonderful job of helping to remove any excess residue.
  4. Scrape off the remaining goo and hand dry glass jar with a towel.
  5. Consider adding a label or painting the lid once dry. The Brother P-touch Label Maker is a current favorite of ours for those must-have labeling details. You could even use chalk paint and label the lid with chalk markers as the contents change!

We love the idea of upcycling glass jars for additional storage inside your kitchen pantry or office! You can use your freshly upcycled glass jars to hold dry goods in the kitchen, trinkets, push pins, paperclips, snacks, and even cooking utensils. You can even add a pump and turn many glass jars into soap dispensers.
